The Thread: “Stay out of Zimbabwe’s politics, Zuma” | Africans say no to Jacob Zuma’s interference

Today, Zimbabwe’s military has had the country under lockdown- including its President Robert Mugabe, who has ruled for 37 years.

South African neighbour President Zuma thought he could do the heroic thing by sending an envoy to meet with Mugabe and the Military so he could obtain ” a more clear picture of what is happening”, but that move has been frustrated, if we are to believe Twitter’s news reports.

Africans are not pleased with Zuma’s interference in Zimbabwe’s coup, which by the way, the Military insists is no coup.

[In case you missed it]: “There is no coup or crisis in Zimbabwe. The Army is simply effecting a National Democratic Project”

However, Twitter has already concluded that they won’t be deceived by the Military’s vocabulary and they have choice words for Zuma too.

See below:

Stay out!

It has taken President Zuma less than five hours to send an envoy to release one Mugabe, but 365 days have passed without appointing a commission of enquiry on State Capture which affects 52 million pple!! #Zimbabwe@karynmaughan

I absolutely disagree with the @EFFSouthAfrica saying Robert Mugabe must be granted asylum in South Africa. He must face the music for his crimes in Zimbabwe. Him not been held accountable will make him above the Constitution of #Zimbabwe. He cannot live on our expanse too.

President Zuma must not interfere in the politics of Zimbabwe. With all due respect, he was quiet when the VPs were being attacked, he eve went on to save the First Lady when she committed an offense in SA

Stay out Zuma

Zuma should please just stay silent! SADC and AU watched and stayed silent as Mugabe carried out atrocities against his people. Let fate for Mugabe take its course #Zimbabwe

Tonight will mark the last day of Robert Mugabe as President Of Zimbabwe … For Long, his advisers including First Lady couldn’t read the writing on the wall .. The Army is taking over … And in South Africa, Jacob Zuma better resign with little dignity.

When a legitimate Vice President was fired (defacto) at a rally by Grace Mugabe, Zuma s did not lose sleep. He must take that foolish statement of his and shove up that contour on his head

— mmatigari (@matigary) November 15, 2017

Is #Zuma really listening to what is happening in #Zimbabwe? Has he noticed what happened to #Mugabe when he pushed too hard for his wife to replace him? Maybe he should think again about his crazy #Nkosazana idea

Lesson

One BIG lesson from this #Zimbabwe situation for democrats:

‘We are catalysing democratic reversals if we do not find a working fail-safe system within democratic structures to address political challenges’.#DGTrends

It’s not over

Great to see #Mugabe gone, but the effectively #coup change will not end happily for #Zimbabwe. Once the military has tasted power it is unlikely to forget the taste. https://t.co/CWLhph7PjA

JUST IN

I am advised that Zuma’s team that was purportedly send on a SADC mission has been asked to fly back to SA by soldiers manning the Airport on the grounds that the Military Generals have everything under control.

What were they here for anyway?

They have rights

The military takeover should not be used as an excuse to undermine Zimbabwe’s international and regional human rights obligations and commitments. #http://Zimbabwecrisispic.twitter.com/wXmJBJd2lN

Love note to western media

I am disappointed but not surprised at how badly Western media is covering this. A whole reputable media organization called #Zimbabwe an East African country. Another used the Zambian flag. Another used a pic of Sandton City. A MESS

Gone. Gone. Gone

Mugabe to step down this afternoon. He has negotiated for his wife Grace who thought power was sexually transmitted, to leave #Zimbabwe. The military has once again reminded him that the power he enjoyed for the past 37 years was donated by them and they would take it at will.

Mugabe pushed…pushed…pushed…pushed…pushed Zimbabwe to its limits for decades. It appears the imminent transfer of power to his wife is one small step too many. We wish Zimbabwe well.

Our prayer

Heavenly Father, we as Zimbabweans pray for the peace of Zimbabwe and a prosperous future. God bless Zimbabwe and its people. God, You have brought us through many difficult times, and You will keep us through this storm. Amen

Amen.
