Police Inspector General, Ibrahim Idris, is appearing before a senate committee probing allegations of corruption levelled against him.
Senator Isa Misau (APC, Bauchi Central) had accused Idris of abusing his office by sleeping with female police officers, donating cars to First Lady Aisha Buhari, extorting bribes from police officers to influence their promotion and cronyism.
“There are serving police officers who are now demoralized because of the activities of the office of the IGP. Mr (Senate) President, even when it comes to appointment, the IG decided to have his own boys who are just assistant commissioner of police, he will give them special promotion.
“He will give them deputy commissioner of police he won’t spend three months or six months he will just give them acting commissioners of police,” Sen Misau had said.

IGP Idris had refused to appear before the senate committee to defend himself, but had a change of mind after a meeting with President Buhari last week.
Idris showed up at the senate today accompanied by his counsel Alex Iziyon, and Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters, Ita Enang.
