Eight members of the Turkish security forces were killed in clashes with militants in Hakkari province, near the border with Iraq, broadcaster NTV reported, citing the military sources.
Among the dead in the restive south-eastern province were two village guards from a government-organised militia and six soldiers.
The report alleged that there were also casualties among the armed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
The pro-Kurdish Firat news agency reported clashes in the area but did not confirm any dead among the PKK, which is considered a terrorist group by Ankara and much of the West.
